Brandy Banana Pudding Shots

These little shots are excellent way to combine two of the best things: booze and desserts. It's a great way to have a little dessert at your party, and get a little buzz with it.

Ingredients:
Dr. Pepper
Milk (I used 2%, but whatever you have should work)
Brandy
1 box of Banana Cream pudding - 3.9oz  *Make sure it's the instant kind*
Cool Whip
Plastic Shot cups - you can pick these up at party city or a local restaurant supply store. See photo below:
Step one:
Mix 3.9oz box of Banana Cream pudding with 3/4 cup milk

Step two:
Add 1/3 cup Dr. Pepper and 1/2 cup of Brandy and stir together.

Step three:
FOLD in 8oz of cool whip. It should be a little thick, as it will not set as well as jello does.




 
Step four:
Add pudding to the shot cups. I transferred the pudding to a ziploc bag and sealed. I then cut a corner of the bag off (not the zipper part). Hold the bag between your thumb and hand and slowly open to drop pudding into cups.

Step six:
Put them in the fridge (not the freezer!) for a good few hours before serving. I like to prepare mine the night before so they get to the perfect consistency.

Yes, I do make a mess. Add cool whip or whipped cream to the top for extra flavor!



These are inspired by my husband with his Dr. Pepper and Brandy drink, that would be awesome with banana.

AMF Jello Shots

I spent quite a bit of time looking for an AMF (Adios Mother Fucker) drink Jello shot recipe. Eventually I gave up, and created my own.

*Please note, these are only for those of legal drinking age. Please consume responsibly.*

For this I am using essentially the same recipe as my original jello shots, with changes in booze and water quantities. You can find that here.

Ingredients: 
1 packet of Knox Gelatine (comes with 4 per package)
Sugar
Boiling water
COLD water
COLD sprite
COLD sweet and sour
COLD booze - Tequila, Rum, Vodka, and Blue Curacao (Many people add Gin to this as well, I just doubled the vodka on mine. Feel free to pick that up as well.)
Jello shot cups - you can pick these up at party city or a local restaurant supply store. See photo below:

Step one:
Boil water - 1 cup

Step two:
Combine 1 package of gelatin and 1/2 cup sugar.
*NOTE* These come out VERY strong. Feel free to add more sugar as you feel needed.

Step three:
Add 1 cup boiling water to the sugar/gelatin mix. Be sure to stir - don't stir crazy fast or you will get lots of bubbles. Bubbles often tend to stay in the jello. Make sure the sugar and gelatin mix is completely dissolved.


I'm going to warn you right now, it did not smell good. It does not still smell like that when you add all the liquors and cold drinks.

Step four:
Add:
1oz cold water
1oz sweet and sour
1oz of sprite

1oz of Rum
1oz of Blue Curacao
1oz of Tequila
2oz of Vodka (*Note, if you decided to use Gin as well, use 1oz vodka and 1oz Gin*).

Stir again!
Step five:
Now pour this into your jello shot cups. I tend to spill a lot so I use a measuring cup.

Step six:
Put them in the fridge (not the freezer!) for a good few hours before serving. I like to prepare mine the night before so they get to the perfect consistency.

Jello Shots

I hate when I'm about to consume a delicious looking jello shot, only to find that it tastes disgusting. Well, that's all about to change. Here is my recipe for THE best jello shots EVER! (at least I think so.. and they have been a hit on numerous occasions)

For this one I used strawberry, but you can use any flavor you like. Be sure to check out some more tips at the end of the blog on variations to this recipe.

This makes about 12-14 shots. I tend to like to buy a bunch of small boxes and make several different flavors to take to an event.

This may sound more confusing than it is. It's really easy once you start making it!

Ingredients: 
1 box of Jello - please note there are two different size jello boxes. This recipe is for the small box (3oz). If you get the bigger one, just double the recipe.
Sugar
Boiling water
COLD water
COLD booze - make sure it's refrigerated before you make these - about an hour should be fine. *I prefer to use vodka for my standard jello shots. If you decide to start out with a different type of alcohol, please check the bottom of the blog for the correct ratios or else they won't taste right!*
Jello shot cups - you can pick these up at party city or a local restaurant supply store. See photo below:
Its about $6 for a bag of 250 at Party City. They are plastic 2oz souffle pots.
You will probably want to start by arranging your cups or "pots" on a tray. If you have a metal tray with an edge, that will work best. But use whatever you have. This will save you some time later.

Step one:
Boil water - 1 cup

Step two:
Combine the box of jello and 1/4 cup sugar.

Step three:
Add 1 cup boiling water to the sugar/jello mix. Be sure to stir - don't stir crazy fast or you will get lots of bubbles. Bubbles often tend to stay in the jello. Make sure the sugar and jello is completely dissolved.

Step four:
Add 5oz of vodka and 3 oz of cold water. Stir again!



Step five:
Now pour this into your jello shot cups. I tend to spill a lot so I use a measuring cup.




Step six:
Put them in the fridge (not the freezer!) for a good few hours before serving. I like to prepare mine the night before so they get to the perfect consistency.

Step seven:
Impress your friends with the most delicious jello shots they have ever tasted. Sometimes it's difficult to taste the alcohol, so be careful! Enjoy!

Two different flavors



Additional notes:
Get your favorite brand of vodka. If you get flavored vodka, you can even add a little less sugar since the flavor will help tone down the alcohol taste anyway.

Here is the recipe and proportions if you decide to go with another booze.

Small box recipe.
1 box of jello
1 cup boiling water
1/4-1/2 cup sugar (use your judgement depending on your brand of alcohol - for example, if you buy the cheap vodka, you may want to add a bit more sugar.) *If you are doubling the recipe - do not add more than 1/2 cup of sugar.*
WATER TO ALCOHOL RATIO:
30-50 proof (20%) - 6.5oz of booze to 1.5oz cold water
80-100 proof (45%) - 5oz booze to 3oz cold water
150-200 proof - 3oz booze to 10oz cold water

Using the ones I made as an example; Vodka is 80 proof. Therefore I would use 5oz of vodka and 3oz cold water. Just check the label on the bottle to see the proof or percent of your chosen alcohol to find out how much you need.

Additional tips:
If you want to make bubbly shots, add a little soda in place of water! Lemon lime soda tends to be a good choice.
If you want to make layered shots, be sure to let the first one completely gel before you pour on the next layer. I'm talking quite a few hours, even overnight. Or try adding a small amount of whip cream between layers.

Additional alcohol and flavor combinations:
brandy - orange or cherry
tequila - lime
rum and coke - unflavored jello
flavored vodka - matching flavored jello (cherry, strawberry, berry, etc)
rum - strawberry or black cherry
sake - lime
champagne - strawberry
coconut rum - pineapple
everclear - berry blue
chocolate liqueur - cherry

Chocolate Butterscotch Marshmallow Bars

My first blog! and of course it would involve food dessert.

Ever see some fabulous looking dessert and think "man that looks good, but I am terrible in the kitchen." Well I know I have. Measuring, mixing, baking correctly - it's all so overwhelming! Okay maybe I'm just afraid of my own kitchen. So I've decided to make some fool proof step-by-step picture instructions on how to make these chocolate butterscotch marshmallow bars:


First of all, here are the things you will need:
Mixing bowl
Measuring cups
Spatula
Something for melting stuff (pot or microwave container)
9x13 pan
Pam/Crisco (or whatever you like to grease your pan with)

Ingredients:
1 Cup Butterscotch Chips
1/2 Cup Butter
1 1/2 Cups Flour
2/3 Cup Brown Sugar
2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp. Salt
1 Tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs
2 Cups Chocolate Chips
2 Cups Mini-Marshmallows

Note the unlabeled back row: Butter, Flour, and Brown Sugar.


Now, before we get started - go preheat that oven! 350 degrees.
Go ahead and grease your pan while you're there.

Look at that nice greasy pan.

Grab your favorite mixing bowl and combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, vanilla, and eggs.


Now go ahead and throw in those marshmallows and chocolate chips.


Next you're going to mix that all up. Just 'fold' it over itself. Use your spatula, don't use a mixer. Take the stuff on the bottom and fold it over the top, like you would when you're folding clothes.



Now you're going to melt the butterscotch chips and butter together. You can do it on the stove or in the microwave - whichever you prefer. Once you've got it melted, it should look something like this:

It's going to be a bit thick - that's ok!

Once that is all melted, dump it on top of all those ingredients in the mixing bowl.



Next, you will 'fold' all the ingredients together. Take from the bottom and fold onto the top. Keep going. It will eventually mix. Eventually it will look something like this:

Yes, it should be thick.

Now you are going to dump that into your greased pan. Use the spatula to spread or pat it out so it covers the pan.


Put it in the oven for 20-25 minutes. You do NOT want to over bake it. Start at 20 mins and add time as necessary. When you first take it out, it SHOULD be jiggly. It WILL harden as it cools.

As difficult as it may be, wait until it is cool (or mostly cool) before you dive in, or else you'll have a squishy pile of delicious (which is good too). Now it's time to enjoy. Om nom nom!
